The British Commission for Military History

The British Commission for Military History was founded in 1965 as the national branch of the International Commission for Military History. It serves as a forum for the discussion and promotion of military history in the broadest sense, without restriction as to period or region.

The British Commission for Military History, in association with the University of Portsmouth invites papers for the Commission’s 14th Annual New Researcher’s conference. The Conference provides an annual forum for postgraduate and early career researchers in Military History related disciplines to present their work in a constructive, supportive environment as well as promoting networking with fellow Historians. They welcome proposals for papers concerning the broad range of military history such as (but not limited to):

  • Strategy, tactics, organisations and technology
  • Representations and perceptions of conflict
  • Social, cultural and personal impacts of of conflict
  • Interrelation of conflict, race and/or gender

Proposals for papers of 20 minutes, which should include an abstract of up to 300 words. The deadline for proposals been extended to 5th September at 13:00. The organising committee will inform potential participants on whether or not their paper has been accepted by 13th  September 2024.
